Truth or Lie #11: God's Word is Sufficient
Truth: God’s Word is
sufficient to lead me, teach me, and heal me.
Lie: I know I need
God’s Word. But it can’t meet EVERY need.
They say, 81% of the population wants to write a book.
Only 2% actually do.
Still, we have a plethora of books out there.
Long books.
Short books.
Gift books.
Hymnbooks.
How-to books.
Resource books.
Fun books.
Crossword books.
But out of all the books ever written, the Bible is the only
Book God ever wrote.
Words are important in our society.
Words were important in the very beginning.
Everything exists because of a spoken word—God’s
Word commanding all to come into existence.
The God Who spoke words, and out of nothing, created a
beautiful world, is the same God Who spoke words that people throughout the centuries
can still hear, read, study, meditate on, remember, live by, find comfort in, and
trust.
God wrote a Book that has lasted longer than any other
book.
And in it, we find words sufficient for every need.
When Hudson Taylor was going through a strong spiritual
struggle in his life, he found himself around professing believers who he discovered
“were content to live just as they would if there were no such book.”
When we ever think we need something other than God’s Word,
we are like these people—content to look for help and sufficiency and hope in
anything other than a Book written by the God of Heaven, the God of Wisdom, the
God of Peace.
Written by the God who is aware of all we are going
through, all that we need, all that we require that is not unlike the needs of
the human race throughout time. They each found sufficiency in the words of the
God who created them with His word.
And we can find that same sufficiency.
The truth is . . . God’s Word is Perfect (Psalm 19:7).
Complete.
Enough.
Sufficient.
Jesus said, “Man shall
not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God.” (Luke 4:4)
Read the only Book God ever wrote, and you will find His Word
sufficient to lead, teach, and heal.
Let’s not go through life as though there were no such Book.
