Truth or Lie #18: More Important than Happiness
[Last week to enter for the
free book giveaway. Winner will be selected randomly before next Monday’s post!]
Truth: Personal
holiness is more important than temporal happiness.
Lie: My personal
happiness is my highest good.
Ever wonder where God is when all around you seems contrary
to your happiness, and life is joyless and heavy?
And do you ever wonder how God’s promise to never leave us or
forsake us has anything to do with His instruction to “be content with such things as you have”? (Heb. 13:5)
My guess is that the answer centers somehow on the truth of
the presence of God.
When life seems free from happiness, even in the “valley of the
shadow of death,” He is there.
When we struggle with contentment, even there, He promises to
never leave us or forsake us.
His presence teaches us holiness.
And the truth is . . . who we're becoming in His sight is more important than our happiness.
His presence teaches us that He is
constantly aware of our needs.
And the truth is . . . what He
supplies is all we need for true happiness.
His presence teaches us that nothing escapes
His all-seeing eye.
And
the truth is . . . He knows what will make us truly happy, and He teaches us to
long for His choice.
Practice the presence of God—remember He is there—and He
will fill you with joy in His presence.
He will lighten what is heavy.
He will soothe your longings.
He will be with you in trouble.
He will take you to the place He’s
preparing for you in order that you might be with Him forever.
Forever happy.

There).
