Three Reasons to Delight in Whatever God Does

Need a contentment boost? A reason to rest no matter what?

Sometimes we just need a truth reminder—the truth about the God who is in complete control.

Here are three reasons to delight in whatever God does.

1.       Your story has already been written.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” (Psalm 37:23a)

I live near Beacon Rock, the second largest monolith in the northern hemisphere. The U.S. Army wanted to blow it up in 1904, but Charles Ladd asked if he could buy the rock. In 1915, Ladd sold it to Henry Biddle for one dollar on the condition that it would be preserved.

Today, one hundred years later, it still stands—fixed, established, “ordered.”

Psalm 37 says our steps are fixed just like that.

When our lives are His, He leads us and chooses our way and closes doors or opens them wide.

Our story is right on schedule.

2.       He delights in the path He has chosen for you.
“. . .and He delights in his way.” (Psalm 37:23b)

The pleasure of God is hard to understand. Sometimes life looks like a frowning providence. In reality, He’s hiding a smiling face. A smile, because He always knows what He’s working together.

He’s working good we might not see as “good” in this life.
He’s working glory for Himself in ways we would never give Him glory if we went our own way.
He’s making a masterpiece that brings Him delight.

What He is doing and what He is making of our lives gives Him pleasure.

A godly older man reminded me recently, “This blob of clay can never say to the supreme Potter, ‘Are you sure this is going to work out?’”

He is working all things out and delights in what He is doing.

3.       God is holding your hand.
“Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the LORD upholds him with His hand.” (Psalm 37:24)

I’ve been single a long time and still hope that one day someone holds my hand every day. But I can choose to delight in whatever God does, because He is holding my hand. He is not an imaginary friend we pretend is walking beside us and loving us.

He is real.

Catching us when we fall.

Holding us up on our darkest days.

And present during our greatest joys.

For these reasons and more, we can delight in whatever God does.

“The joy of the LORD is your strength.”  (Nehemiah 8:10)
