Away from a Manger
This time of year, in the Northern hemisphere, Orion rules the night sky.
One star in the upper corner, named Betelgeuse, is so large 2,127,774,087,928,000 (2 quadrillion) earths could fit inside.
Around the world, we celebrate the birth of Christ.
Hebrews tells us the "heavens are the work" of His hands. (Hebrews 1:10)
He created Orion.
Once a year, we remember Christ's birth. Later, we remember His death and resurrection. These events are pivotal points in human history, and the only reason mankind has hope.
Eternity won't be long enough to thank Him for what His humility meant for those of us who will be "heirs of salvation" (Hebrews 1:14).
But in an effort to exalt Him, have we reduced Him in our minds to a helpless baby in a manger or a mangled body on a cross?
Jesus Christ is the exact representation of God the Father.
He upholds all things by the word of His power.
He laid the foundation of the earth.
The heavens are the work of His hands.
Look for Orion in the winter sky, and remember it was created by the baby in a manger.
Look away from a manger, and see Christ in His rightful place--"high and lifted up" (Isaiah 6:1).
"Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God,
be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen." (1 Timothy 1:17)
