What Love Is

Throughout the month of February, the concept of love is emphasized, over-emphasized, construed, and misconstrued.

But what is love?

Really.

Is it the tabloid version defined by babies, multiple partners, secret affairs, and the perfect couples?

Is it a box of chocolate, flowers, the perfect date, or a lifelong promise?

I believe love is so much more.

True love can only be defined by the One who is love (1 John 4:16) and encourages love (1 John 4:11).

The Bible, written by the Master Lover, is a story of love, woven throughout time’s history, culminating in a redemption story greater than any ever told.

If you want to know true love for you, it is this.

Someone chose you to be His long before this world existed and set His affection on you no matter what He knew you might do for Him or against Him. Ephesian 1:3-5

He made the way for you to belong to Him, costing unspeakable suffering. Galatians 1:4

He watches over you moment by moment, cares about you, and fulfills every promise He ever made to you. Matthew 10:30; Titus 1:2

His heart yearns for you and delights in you. The depth of this affection is immeasurable and unexplainable, greater than any human affection is capable of. Zephaniah 3:17; Ephesians 3:19

No matter who you are, what you’ve done, how often your heart has been broken or how deep your scars, He says to you, “Come to me.” Matthew 11:28

Unconditional, complete, eternal, faithful, perfect.

What is love?

This.

“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son.” (1 John 4:10)
