Rest Spelled Right

They say, “STRESSED is just DESSERTS spelled backward.”

I agree. Desserts help.

Maybe that’s why the Christmas season is full of desserts – Christmas cookies, Gingerbread houses, fudge, candies, sugar-coated whatever you can think of.

Maybe we’re trying to sugar-coat the stress.

Add a couple of “S’s” and STRESS is just REST spelled wrong.

Stress is . . . rest lived wrong.  It’s life lived wrong.

What are we told to be anxious about?  “Nothing.” (Phil 4:6)

Instead of sugar-coating life, what if we chose to rest?

Rest in the reason for Christmas.

God promised He would send His Son.
And He called Him the Prince of Peace. (Isa. 9:6)

God sent His Son. And this is love.
Not that we loved God, but that He loved us. (1 John 4:10)

Christ's coming meant peace, goodwill toward men. (Luke 2:14)

We now have peace with God through Him. (Rom. 5:1)

He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)

Abundant life is moment-by-moment rest in the all-sufficient God who sent His Son that we might have peace.

Peace with God.

And the peace of God.

This is rest spelled right.

This is life lived right.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

  1. Bethany, I absolutely adore this post. Exactly right -- stress is a symptom of a problem with how we're living our lives and/or how we're managing things (most likely trying to manage all on our own.)

    Thank you!

    1. Yes, I think a lot of our stress is self-induced. The Lord wants us to be at peace even more than we do, I think.

Thanks for your comment, Jennifer. Have a happy New Year!
